Week 3 - Production
Production - Live Shots
For this week unfortunately we had to take a break from live shoots so for development on this side of things I went out trying to recruit a Director of Photography and a Production Designer. While I wasn’t able to find anyone that could be on set for our project due to time constraints, I was able to talk to Noah Naidoo (DP, nnaido20@student.scad.edu) and Kaitlyn Mucilli (Production Designer, kmucil20@student.scad.edu) about how to improve our set and how to actually film our shots.
The mentors last week suggested we try a studio style for our live action shots instead of a park setting, so I did some quick comps with a 3D background to try and see how that would look.
Production- Lighting
One of the other things I focused on for this week was beginning to establish our main lighting for the CG scenes. I was going off of the actually pepsi peep can ads as reference, however we did not like how dark the front of the can was so I took that into account. I wanted to get that directional shadow in without having shadows cover up our peep assets so I pushed the shadows on to the right instead of the left. I also experimented with putting a wall that would be similar to the inside of the cooler like the mentors asked.
Another thing I wanted to try and get were the slightly purple shadows the pepsi peep ads have in them, so I experimented with two different techniques to get this color with different intensities. The first one was with a dark violet fill light. The second one was with two key lights where one was purple and the other was green, and when you turn cast shadows off for the purple light, the shadows of the objects then become purple.
