Week 2 - Pitch Development and Beginning Production
Starting Production:
One of the main things the mentors mentioned when we met last week for our live action shot was that if we were going to go the MOME style ad, then our live plate had to match. We decided to rent a camera out and do a couple test shoots
We experimented with multiple different compositions, settings and focal lengths. We liked this yellow table due to the contrast with the blue ice box. The images from that shoot are below. It
It was from this shot where we decided to not use stock footage in the background of our footage. We are aiming to use a wider lens to achieve a flatter look to our ice box and it has been difficult to find stock footage that matches that. Also from a test comp (pictured below) using these images we determined that people at a party or playground in the background was too distracting from where we wanted our focal point to be, so now were going for a plainer background. We’ll incorporate the children playing idea into our sound design to still get the vibes that people are around.
We liked the yellow table setting, however, the lighting was not the best so we decided to go out another day. The lighting was still not great in our original location so we decided to experiment with another setting as well.
I then took these images and videos we got from the shoots and ran our best compositions through some color grading.
The first one still needs some work because I think it still looks too blue. I also anticipate having to film again but I thought these were good tests to see what we wanted and how to achieve a way to still make our live action match our graphic MOME look.
