Week 6 - Comp.

Mentor Feedback:

SHOT 010

  • What else is happening in shot 01? why should we care about this shot?

  • Crop in some on shot 01, what is drawing visual interest to inside of the box? something coming out of it?

  • What is the idea for transitioning into the cooler? crash zoom, make frame solid blue when zooming in

SHOT 020/030

  • Add camera moves, more zdepth and put in motion blur

SHOT 040

  • add zdepth on peeps, put in motion blue

  • have cans slightly moving in the water

SHOT 050

  • get the cast shadows on the peeps from the lid closing

Priority List for this week:

  • 3 iterations of shot 1 before class on Thursday

  • Overall color pass on ad (focus on shot 010 and shot 050)

  • Comp logo on the lid (2 iterations)

  • Comp elements from shot 040 together when tempest has an update

  • Subtle can movement in shot 040

  • increase DOF in shot 020

Shot 010

Going ahead and hitting my top priority item, I focused on changing up the composition and filling elements into our shot one so it doesn’t look so bare. I also experimented with changing up the color of the background some to try and mimic the color pallet and placement in the CG shots. Below are some of the iterations I did as slap comps to get an idea of what we would want.

I tried to go for items we already had as assets from our CG world so I got integrate them into our live action. My team liked the last one the most so I will continue to work on that comp to improve the color placement and start rendering out 3d item passes. I’m also thinking about removing the blue towel in that shot and replacing it with a pink one so we can get more pink in there to balance out the colors. Below is a small render I did with a jumping peep to help draw the eye to the cooler in the scene.

My team had a comment that this was almost too busy at this point so I proceeded to start to integrate and comp some 3D objects into the scene. I also wanted to incorporate Molly’s critic about the framing and camera position, so I moved the icebox closer to the center as well as zoomed in some. I added some drop shadows as well as lightened the top of the cooler so the eye is drawn there. Jerry also adjusted the jumping peep so it feels like it is jumping on a diving board inside of the cooler!

I selected these colors to better match the color proportions in shot 020 and the rest of the cg world. I am thinking about changing the towel to be pink instead of the blue stripped one. These shaders are also not final and just to block in colors.

Shot 020

I added zdepth to shot 2 once rendered. I did not adjust color for this shot since it is our master shot and all colors are to be adjusted to match this one. We fixed the previous “glow” around the main peep and diving board by doing separate render passes and being able to apply zdepth in separate layers.

Shot 040

Layout was edited by Amanda and Tempest. Then these were also rendered in separate layers to adjust color and zdepth. I did have to fake the zdepth on the peeps and pyro since the zdepth pass was just not working on there.

Shot 050

I updated shot 050 to match the color and props of shot 010. I integrated the drop shadows of the objects as well on the peeps in the cooler. The rotos are rough around the hand coming in to close the lid, but that will be one of my goals this week.
